  1. You want Hell? Wake up as a municipal Janitor in Wisconsin, and Gov. Walker is standing behind you with a broken glass encrusted condom.

  2. Thanks for checking in. If you weren’t so rushed I’m sure there would photos of Hell that was formerly your office….just kidding, don’t mean to rub it in. We’ll have your roasting hot weather in a few days plus oh constant companion, humidity.

  3. I see Hell has moved as far north as Fort Collins. Fires up there now.

What was that book by James Baldwin? The Fire Next Time? “God gave Noah the rainbow sign, no more water the fire next time.”[1]

  4. What amazes me is how the Right can be so dreadfully opposed to the idea that humans influence climate, while climate is going to hell all around us. If it ain’t drought or storm, its ocean acidification and the lastest observation that came out: a probable increase in speed of the global water cycle, i.e., more atmospheric energy drives the system (evaporation/precipitation/runoff) faster.

Down here in the Land of Entrapment, folks who know something about climate (that doesn’t include Yours Truly, at least at the professional level) say we are more likely seeing existing variability in play such as the decadal oscillations of ENSO (El Nino/Southern Oscillation) on a climate pattern that is always on the verge of drought. North of us in CO, some of the scientists down my way are endorsing the idea that global climate change is more of a culprit than historic variability. Northern Arizona University has a good climatology program in conjunction with the US Geological Survey looking at stuff like tree rings and sedimentary pollen mapping. Neat stuff.

Any way you look at it, we live at the behest of Ma Nature. When was the last time anyone you know enthusiastically welcomed you back to their home when all you did was fart and belch all the time? That is a pretty good metaphor to the present day level of mining and burning of fossil fuels. We don’t even try to be polite any more. “Will somebody light a match?”
