Breaking news: It snows in winter

Boo and Herself

Banzai Buddy Boo and the Islamic terrorist holding him hostage.

Check this strange beverage that falls out from the sky, as Tom Waits once growled. Snow, and in winter, too. Who knew?

Mister Boo loves the stuff. Herself took him out for a quick trip around the block and “quick” is the operative word here. The Boo took four corners a sight faster than Davis Phinney ever did, and maybe Danica Patrick, too. His Nipponese ancestors must have hailed from the top of Mount Fuji. He looked like a bug-eyed little snowplow bounding up the sidewalk.

Not so Miss Mia Sopaipilla. The little minx slipped through the open door as I was taking a picture and instantly thought better of it, hanging a 180 and jetting back inside to criticize my weather-management skills.

Being a Russian blue, Mia’s family tree may be rooted in Stalingrad, or perhaps Siberia. But just ’cause you’re from there doesn’t mean you have to like it. You don’t see me hanging around Annapolis, after all.

What’s with that reflected curtain? Did you capture that image from inside?

Better you than me, my friend! I’m over here in Sicily whining about clouds, whipped up seas and wind….but the laundry needs to be done anyway so off I go to the laundromat. Ain’t cheap here at around $8.00 for a load wash/dry but the place is so clean one could eat off the floor and the owner will even take your stuff out of the washer and shove it in the dryer – so all I have to do after dropping it off is go back, fold it up and pay him!

    • Patrick O'Grady Says:

You should see the Laundromat down the street. “Stoner’s Laundry,” and while Stoner was no doubt an actual person at the institution’s founding, the word describes its clientele today. I wouldn’t eat within a block of the place, and while people will take your stuff out of the washer, they are not motivated by altruism.

We refused delivery in Sierra Vista, just a dusting here, and sent it to you. We were sweating it for awhile, but the storm stayed to the North of us. The golf match in Tucson kept their snow for Tiger’s amusement.

Alternative caption for your consideration: Buddy Boo with his Savior.
Japan, Siberia and Turkey. Yes, your furry companions all hail from the East.
Lots of wind and cold here in the Northeast. I’m sick of winter.

The vast horsemeat scandal in the UK and Europe plus the use of Clenbuterol in horses makes me think the wrong food source was searched for and tested in Contador’s case, for example. The horsemeat is not just in “mince” and prepared foods. Pieces of meat sold as beef are indeed horse as the investigations reveal.

I keep seeing a PO’G cartoon commenting on this scandal. Do you have the stomach for drawing it, Patrick?

    • Patrick O'Grady Says:

The Boo adores Herself, ’tis true. Me he tolerates as an alternative source of food and walks in her absence.

The Turk, now, he’s my buddy. He insists on sharing the reading room with me in the morning and the bed (albeit briefly) upon retiring. I’m glad he’s not a horse, or even the head of one.

Considering what goes into ground beef in the good ol’ USA you’d think people would be happy to get a little fresh cayuse in the daily diet. That said, the entire sordid affair is enough to make a vegan of Hannibal Lecter.

      • Patrick O'Brien Says:

Not to worry, Duffy treats me the same way unless I have a carrot stick in my hand. Then he will follow me anywhere.
        Long live the Deuce!

    • Larry T. Says:

I have no issues with eating Mr. Ed or his cousins as long as I know that’s what I’m getting – had a panino di cavallo the other week at Carnevale in fact. I think these things were the inspiration for the Philly Cheese Steak – chopped up horsie is grilled right in front of you, then the grilled onions and peppers are added just before the cheese (in this case “swiss”) and it’s all stuffed into the fresh bread roll. Pretty tasty!

  5. Jeff Cozad Says:

Yeah… The local “whether” folks here have been trying to whip folks here into full pillage the grocery store mode for the last day or two. I’m just smiling at the though of riding in it, assuming it actually happens.

  6. Jon Paulos Says:

C’mon, you’re leaving out the important stuff here. How did the Turk respond? Did he go out and disappear against the white background? Race Mia back in? Assault Mr. Boo? Dish, oh do.

  7. Larry T. Says:

Heard from the folks back home in Sioux City – they got 10 inches of the white stuff! Usually while we’re gone it’s nice there. I feel cheated – nothing to bitch about since I’m over here. Meanwhile, in the doping…er…CYCLING world, the spring classics season gets going this weekend. No TV coverage today but tomorrow’s K-B-K is supposed to be shown on the RAI Sport channel so I’ll make sure my bike ride’s over before it comes on. Don’t get a good enough WIFI signal here to stream video which is probably a good thing.

  8. John Dallager Says:

Yes, indeed on the snow! And you ain’t seen nuttin’ yet! Wait ’till Sunday in COS!! ‘Course we need it! Looks like another great day on the trainer! 🙂

  9. Debby Says:

It’s definitely a day for the trainer here in Boulder County. And upper body workouts with the snow shovel…

    • Larry T. Says:

And K-B-K got snowed out. I feel for all of you dealing with the white stuff. In Sicily it was high clouds this morning with a shower in the afternoon – but by then I was home from my bike ride enjoying some leftover pasta con pesce spada (swordfish) from the other day.

  10. weaksides (@weaksides) Says:

Twas a fine day for a bike ride here in NC yesterday. Sunny with a high of 61. 100 miles done and doner. Now we’re back to our regularly scheduled winter- overcast and in the 40s.

  11. Steve O Says:

Standing by for a nahbs report!!
