Grave consequences

One of these things is not like the other.

One of these things is not like the other.

On this day in 1865, Abraham Lincoln was laid to rest in his hometown of Springfield, Ill.

One hundred and 51 years later, Honest Abe is spinning in his grave.

Ordinarily I dismiss the “both sides do it” argument, but I think in this case we might agree that while the Pachyderms are the primary architect of this clusterfuck, the Donks share the blame for morphing into Republican Lite in the decades since Nixon flogged McGovern.

When both sides of the aisle focus on making themselves and their benefactors comfy-cozy as the working stiffs enjoy another tasty plate of shit soufflé, this is what you get.

I remember a snarky slogan from my faux-hippie days that seemed funny at the time: “America: Fix It or Fuck It.”

Coming to a ballot box near you in November 2016.

I’m an American, not a democrat or a republican.

Therefore, come November, I will support our new president …

… no matter who she is.

// A general election that pits Hillary Clinton against Donald Trump will produce a decisively more affluent and better educated Democratic presidential electorate and a decidedly less affluent and less educated Republican one than in any previous election going back as far as 1976. //

Funny… I keep hearing about how our institutions of higher learning are breeding grounds for pink commie liberals. But personal experiences, our college campuses are rife with folks who have no love for the Democrats but are scared to death of the Republicans. Shit like climate change, the fear of anything scientific, and the conundrum of claiming to be anti-big government and then using big government to push social issues.

Dumb and dumber, that’s what we got

Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right.

And folks still think the shifts from right to left and back again are linear, simple pendulum shifts, instead of realizing that there are Malcolm Gladwell spaghetti sauce type clusters in the middle.

It’s interesting to see the “liberals” turning into “conservatives” and the “conservatives” turning into “anarchists.” It makes me wanna cry.

  3. Doug Glondeniz Says:

Lincoln freed the slaves, Trump and his followers want to bring it back for any people of color.

Republicans did it to themselves. Who the fuck other than the Christo-Nazis listens to Cruz? GOP has not accomplished much other than piss, moan, and stonewall. Its candidates were a clown bus as far as I am concerned.

Trump, to his credit, knows that the big issues are economic (immigration and China are symptoms of a deeper problem) and has been playing that card well. What he would do if elected is anyone’s guess and that’s my problem: the idea of a loose cannon in the White House is scary shit. Sanders knows its the economy, too but would face the same stonewalling in Congress and in the Shadow Government that Obama did. In some small measure, they are both telling us that both Washington and the business climate, which focuses on investor return rather than making sure Americans have a roof over their heads, have failed most people.

Hillary? Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

“This is the worst time of my long life,” Father Daniel Berrigan said in an interview with The Nation in 2008. “I have never had such meager expectations of the system.”

    No shit.

  5. Pat O'Brien Says:

    BOHICA.

  6. Stan Thomas Says:

Alice Cooper for President. Doesn’t look so dumb now, eh.

  7. Mike Frye Says:

I have no love for Donald Trump. I personally think that he being a former supporter of Hillary Clinton is trying to make sure that Hillary gets elected. So what we have, a totally corrupt (look at what she did in Haiti) or what I consider anathema to Republican ideals.

I know everybody hates Reagan, but he did pardon over 10 million folks that were living in the United States without documentation. The neat thing about that is it took these folks and turned them into productive taxpaying individuals. and did get a lot of flack for it.

I think my wright in candidate would be Ron Paul, okay he’s not exactly new but that way I can sign my ballot without feeling like I should wash my hands afterwards.

  8. Pat O'Brien Says:

It’s important to not get too distracted by this presidential primary debacle and forget that the shit heads in congress (Bernie and a few others might be the babies in that fetid bathwater) are the real problem. If there is a shadow government of the oligarchs, and I think there is, the heart of it is in congress.

    • Patrick O'Grady Says:

Yeah, and it rolls even further downhill than that. Keep a weather eye on your statehouses, county commissions, city councils and school boards. Lots of action going on underneath the radar as local news organizations feel the pinch and the big boys are finished with Pulitzer season for now.

      • Steve O Says:

The Koch Bros figured that out. They basically sit out the presidential elections, then pour a shit-tonne of doughnuts on the state and congressional elections during off-years. That’s when the easily mislead crazy old people vote. Way more bang for said buck.

      • khal spencer Says:

        You nailed it, Steve.

      • Pat O'Brien Says:

Right Steve. And if the lazy assholes who don’t vote in the midterm went to the polls and voted the crazy old people wouldn’t be electing everyone’s congress. So the oligarchs win, and we lose. It’s not the oligarchs fault; they just exploit the situation. You know, like undocumented workers.
