I got some wild, wild life

“Take a picture, here in the daylight, oh oh.
They got some wild, wild life.”

Herself had buggered off to Florida for a bit of R&R, and Field Marshal Turkish von Turkenstein (commander, 1st Feline Home Defense Force) was in his quarters, decoding vital transmissions from HQ (which appear on the underside of his eyelids), when his adjutant, Miss Mia Sopaipilla, bypassed the chain of command to inform me that we had a muj’ inside the wire.

Little fella — I know, I know, how binary of me — hung out for the better part of quite some time, touring the patio, napping under our bedroom window, and finally scooting up a backyard tree and into the arroyo.

Maybe his old lady was out of town too? Checkin’ in; checkin’ out, uh huh. I got a wild, wild life.

  1. Got any rabbits around? We have had the occasional fox camp out on patios overnight into the morning around our neighborhood. Lots of rabbits around here, especially on the golf course. Coyotes and foxes are drawn in by them, plus the ponds on the course.

    1. O, we have all manner of snackables for these fellas. Bunnies, squirrels, lizards, you name it. I guess it’s the tail end (har) of mating season, too, so maybe this’n just wanted some peace and quiet.

  2. Yes, mating season. Probably a young fella trying to establish a territory and finding some relief from the scents of his competition in your walled garden. Something similar to a photo posted by an Instagram acquaintance in Ireland (no rabies). The fox curls up next to the threshold of a french door and her cat is inside and mesmerized by Mr. Fox.

  3. PO’G: “Intellectually rigorous” contrasting view here…..intentionally provocative in nature.
Just declare “manifest destiny”, slaughter the food sources and residents you don’t want interfering in such a noble cause, move them to intentionally non-profitable/less-than-desirable locales, and declare victory.
Oooops, that’s been done before. Seems to work on a large scale if you can tolerate the moral dilemma aspects of it.
I personally can’t; but I only have one vote! 🙂

  4. When we take away their habitat, we shouldn’t get excited when they visit now and then. But we do, and then either drug or trap and move them away from their home, or kill them. We win, and everybody loses.
