      1. huh…I always thought The Tokens were black. Great song though. There’s quite a history to that song from what I remember from some podcast I listened too years ago.

        1. It’s a textbook case in which the venality of the music industry is on full display. Those bandits would steal the pennies off their dead grannies’ eyes.

Did you know R.E.M. did a cover version? True fact. And not bad.

I’d like to hear a Tom Waits cover myself. I don’t think he’d be able to hit the high notes, though.

    1. Look closely at the image and you’ll see a hint of the harness with retractable lead that Miss Mia wears whenever she’s in the Great Out of Doors. Herself was on the other end of the lead.

We learned our lesson after Field Marshal Turkish von Turkenstein (commander, 1st Feline Home Defense Regiment) came home after an outing with a wound that he managed to conceal from us. It turned into an abscess, which turned into a very expensive visit to the vet. Not even The Mighty Turk was the biggest lion in the Bibleburg jungle.

The Mighty Turk, deep in the Bibleburg jungle.

      1. Back in grad school, I let Paco, the big tabby, run the hood. One night I came home from work and saw that he had tangled with a car, with predictable outcome.

Buried the little guy in one of my favorite sweaters.

  1. Catless and Dogless

    By mortality and fate

    Sadness and misdirected

    Wandering without aim

    Missing greatly

    the friendships of the past

    May I soon trip over

    the happiness and companionship

    of the future
